Because the aim of Yekgirtú is to introduce a writing system suitable to all Kurdish dialects, it has necessitated the vowel /ù/ to suit the needs of the South Kurdish dialect group. The South Kurdish group has mostly used Perso-Arabic alphabet in its entire known records. Due to the lack of this High Central Close vowel in Persian phonetic system, the vowel /ù/ has not been represented previously for writing South Kurdish.
The South Kurdish group has produced the oldest Kurdish literary records of any Kurdish dialect, as far back as the 11th century through Yaristan (Ahli Haqq) bladdery works and Baba Tahir’s Pahlawiat poetry. These records reveal medieval history Kurdish literature and contain rich vocabularies that are the treasures to the Kurdish language as a whole. Enabling the contents of the third largest Kurdish language dialect group to properly register its vocal system through Yekgirtu will enrich the Kurdish language at large.
Today the speakers of this dialect of Kurdish are again actively engaged in writing and production of an increasing amount of literature. The speakers of this dialect group have already coined and promoted the Kurdish language with new and words and terms such as bùshe for dialect, ùshe for word, mínewaní for research, mínewan for researcher, bizmandin for to test, and etc.
Below is some example of the modern text in South Kurdish dialect.
