Ali Rokhzadi (1946-2007)

Dr. Ali Rokhzadi (Kurdish: Elí Ruxzadí, علی روخزادی) was born in 1946 in the small village of Xalle Waze in vicinity of Xurr Xurre area of the city of Seqiz in Mand province in Kurdistan. He worked as a teacher in the cities of Tehran, Saqiz, and Sine for a total of 36 years. Dr Rokhzady also worked as lecturer at the linguistic department of the University of Kurdistan in Sine for 15 years. He was a member of the scientific board at the University.

He was a dedicated field researcher in Kurdish dialectalogy and phonology. He wrote several  books on Kurdish, Persian and Pahlavic linguistic features and compared the poetry, grammar and phonology of these languages. One of his most valuable and known was 2002 publication of the  Kurdish Phonetics and Grammar.

Dr Rokhzadi passed away in 17th May 2007 at the age of 62,
