Democratic Society Party (DTP) deputy from Siirt Osman Özçelik has prepared a bill for the establishment of departments for the study of Kurdish language and literature at Dicle University and İstanbul University.
Özçelik claimed that when Turkey is finally democratized, Kurdish will be used in the educational system and that, at that point, experts in Kurdish will be needed.
He pointed out that there are 35 million Kurds in the world and that 20 million of them live in Turkey.
He added that the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT) is planning to broadcast in Kurdish and that it will need experts in the language. He added that in Iraq Kurdish is one of the official languages and that it is widely used in northern Iraq.
